Animal Arts was first established in 1979 by Lawrence A. Gates and Mark R. Hafen as Gates Hafen Architects. In 1986 our client Animal House Veterinary Clinic won a Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Award and we quickly grew to specialize in the animal care design industry.
Today as Animal Arts, our partners, Tony L. Cochrane, Heather E. Lewis, Vicki J. Pollard, Ashley M. Shoults, and Sean M. McMurray continue the commitment to excellence in design envisioned by our now retired founders.
From the outset Animal Arts has demonstrated a unique ability to design leading-edge, award-winning facilities that are responsive to our clients' very specific needs. We have built our firm's success on the personal and immediate relationships that we develop with our clients.
Our unique expertise in the realm of animal care facility design spans the veterinary and animal sheltering worlds, assistance dog care and training facilities, and animal boarding facilities. We design small general practice veterinary hospitals, expansive specialty emergency practices, and equine and large animal hospitals. Our work with animal sheltering organizations begins with needs assessments for small, local nonprofit organizations and continues up to large-scale shelter design for nationally recognized nonprofits and municipalities.
