Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center

Location: Columbus, Ohio

This new 48,350 square-foot, state-of-the-art shelter focuses on adoption, education, the reduction of stress, and improving the quality of life and health for animal and staff.  Design features include the separation of functial areas, natural light and outdoor exercise spaces and animal housing that appropriately sized, comfortable and easy to clean.

Proper circulation and an emphasis on small, glass-enclosed adoption and real life rooms provides public spaces that are calm and quiet and animals that are easy to view.   A veterinary hospital with two surgery suites provides affordable spay/neuter and other medical services for the shelter and the public.

To achieve a LEED Silver rating, the shelter incorporated sustainable design features such as natural daylighting, skylights, solar panels, optimized mechanical systems, and sustainable/recycled products and materials.
